Our Georgia Aquarium Visit
We recently took a road trip and our ultimate destination was Georgia Aquarium! Oliver loves all things marine life and wants to work at the aquarium some day.
For those who might not be aware, Georgia Aquarium is located in Atlanta, Georgia, and you can learn more about the basics of what you can see and do there at their website.
Before You Go
One of the things that really got the kids excited about Georgia Aquarium was watching the show “The Aquarium”. It follows some stories of the animals at the aquarium, gives a behind the scenes look at care and training, and highlights some of the conservation efforts the aquarium in involved in. We would highly recommend checking it out before you go!
We would also recommend downloading the Georgia Aquarium app. This will allow you to show your tickets digitally (including meal vouchers, if you buy with your tickets it saves a couple bucks), it also includes the map, and allows you to sign up for shows prior to arrival.
The Shows
At the time we went they offered 3 shows at no extra charge, however you did need to reserve a timeslot (hence the app coming in handy).
The Dolphin Show – The best way to see the dolphins is at the show. Be warned there is a splash zone!
Behind The Scenes Tour
An extra that we added on was a behind the scenes tour. Highly recommended! Especially if you were able to watch the show before you made your visit. Relatively inexpensive at $15 a person it a great add on. It allows you to see the tops of the large tanks like ocean voyager and tropical diver. We even got to see them feeding the whale sharks while we were there! Whale sharks are amazing animals, we wrote more about them in a previous post you should check out.
Tips For Your Visit
Get there early. We arrived a few minutes before they opened and were able to get right in with no wait. First thing we did was head to ocean voyager which includes an under water tunnel. By going there first we had it all to ourselves and were ablet to snag some great pictures. We went back later in the day and it was packed.
Schedule your shows as quickly as you can so you can plan out your day.
Download the app to have easy access to tickets and map.
Buying meal vouchers ahead of time can save you a couple bucks.
Overall we would definitely recommend adding Georgia Aquarium to your travel plans! Hope you have as much fun there as we did!
